My air conditioning unit started making this buzzing noise around the contactor and the capacitor. The motor turns, but after about 30 minutes it stops and the buzzing starts. Should I replace the capacitor? It's 100 degrees down here and it seems like the unit is overheating.
Often a buzzing sound indicates a problem in the contactor. The issue may be with the contactor itself, or it could be the result of a low voltage problem elsewhere. A service technician would need to isolate the issue. I suggest you contact the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Houston, TX at (713/281/832) 777-7777 to help identify the source of the buzzing noise.
