• Are refrigerant additives a good idea?

    Jun.17.2011

I am hearing quite a bit about polarized refrigerant oil additives. You guys are the experts and would have probably cleaned up a mess if it made one. So are the claims made for these additives for real or just snake oil? If you do back the technology, do you offer the service?

HVAC technicians look to the manufacturers of air conditioning equipment for recommendations regarding additives. Currently the major manufacturers endorse neither oil additives nor oil replacements. We know that there are a number of claims made regarding refrigerant additives, but the industry consensus currently is that there is insufficient data to support the projected savings. We do sometimes consider the use of an oil additive to reduce the noise of operation of old systems, but this is only on an as needed basis. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC technician, like the ARS Rescue Rooter branch in Houston, TX at (713/281/832) 777-7777 for a complete system check-up and recommendations.
