• Can't get temperature back down

    Aug.23.2010

My central air conditioning gets the house temperature down to the temperature at which I have it set only in the middle of the night and early morning. As the day progresses, it slowly climbs above what I have it set at, and it goes up to between 78 and 83 degrees and then I cannot get it back down...even late at night. In the middle of the night it goes down to the proper temperature only to gradually climb again during the day. I recently had it serviced and they said everything looked okay, but my coolant was down 1 ½.

The temperatures this summer have been above normal for a long period of time and well above the temperature conditions for which air conditioning systems are designed. These conditions will cause temperatures to rise by a few degrees during the heat of the day and then slowly come back down overnight. If you have had it serviced, the refrigerant level was set properly, and no other problems were found, then the temperatures we have been having this year is the probable cause of your issues. If, as temperatures moderate, you continue to be concerned about the operation of your air conditioning system, I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in St. Petersburg, FL at (727) 588-4200 or (813) 282-3737. You may want to consider one of our Home Service Plans which provides two tune-ups annually.
