• Capacitor not working

    Sep.19.2010

Last week my air conditioning system's capacitor was replaced and now the house will not cool below 79 even when the thermostat is set at 73 degrees.

This is a problem that calls for further investigation. It could be a repeat failure of the capacitor caused by another component, or it could be a problem in the capacitor or wiring, or even possibly something unrelated has gone wrong. A capacitor supplies a limited amount of power to a portion of the motor to give it more balanced operation.  It is an integral part of the operation of the motors in the blower, condenser fan and compressor.  If the capacitor is weak it will cause the motor to overheat, causing just a portion of the motor to do all the work.  You need to contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as ARS/Rescue Rooter, to evaluate your system and diagnose the failure.
