We had a new Carrier furnace installed on 2/4/08 and it was checked on 11/12/09. It has been working, but in the last couple of weeks, it makes a clicking noise when it comes on which doesn't stop until it goes back off. I seem to remember the technician telling us that the clicking noise should just be at first when the pilot light ignites, and then should stop. Why does the noise not stop now? We still have heat, but the noise is irritating and I'm not sure if it is dangerous
The clicking noise might be the electronic ignition activating continuously, in which case the part could fail. When a furnace has a spark ignition, the clicking should stop after it has proven flame. If you have an EAC (Electronic Air Cleaner) filter, an air filtration system that improves indoor air quality, that well may be the source of the clicking noise. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Glenshaw, PA at (412) 487-2400, for a complete system check.
