Our central air system seems to be working normally; cooling efficiently like it always has. Recently, however, it has begun making clicking sounds when it's turning on and also when it's turning off. It's like it's trying to turn on or off; sometimes it doesn't happen at all and turns on & off normally, but sometimes it will click even 4 or 5 times before successfully turning either on or off.
Often clicking can be heard when the air conditioning unit turns on or off even if it is cooling normally, but if you experience a change in sound and operation, it may be that a control component is failing in the system. A qualified technician would need to perform a diagnostic check to determine where the noise is coming from and what is malfunctioning. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor, like ARS/Rescue Rooter, to go over your system and see if maintenance or repairs are in order. Seasonal preventive maintenance is optimum for both your air conditioning and heating systems to prevent costly emergency repairs.
