• Code five, what does that mean?

    Oct.30.2008

I have a 2 ton Carrier package unit, model 48SS-024060301 and the LED code is flashing 5. I've just had the blower motor and Hall effect sensor replaced and it was working fine for about 2 weeks — then it got colder. The blower motor runs and the gas cycles on, but no sparking to light the gas. Any Ideas, is the control board bad?

Code five would indicate that there is a problem with the ignition system on the unit — which could either mean the ignitor has failed or the flame sensor could be misaligned or disconnected. The unit will also indicate the same code if the gas supply has been turned off. I would make sure the gas supply to the unit is turned on, and if that does not fix it, I would recommend you have an experience service technician inspect the ignition system.
