• Condensate tray overflowing

    Jul.9.2010

I’m not sure if this is an air conditioning or plumbing question as it deals with the condensate line on our AC unit. We have a unit in the attic and the condensate tray is overflowing and leaking inside the house. We have manually vacuumed the drain pipe outside to remove the water but it just fills back up and starts leaking again within a few hours. We have been manually vacuuming the hose for days and still it leaks.

You need to have a safety switch installed to prevent the pan from filling up. Your air conditioning system’s condensate drain may be clogged. If the primary drain is clogged, the water should flow to the secondary drain. Contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter Houston branch at (713/281/832) 777-7777, to take a look at this issue. Ask him to make sure that both drains have safety switches to prevent water damage to your house.
