• Do I need two humidifiers

    Oct.31.2008

My house is so dry now that its getting colder, I know that a whole house humidifier is needed but I have two heating systems. Do I have to get a unit on both heaters, and what is the general cost for something like this.

You are correct, it is that time of the year. You turned on the furnace and now you are noticing the dry air which can lead to stuffy noses, agitated allergies and that unwanted static electricity.

I would recommend, for maximum comfort, you install a humidifier on each unit. With a humidifier on each unit, you will be more comfortable both upstairs and down, assuming you have one unit for upstairs and one for downstairs. Whole house humidifiers will only properly humidify so many square feet — so if you get one that is not large enough for your house, it will not reach the proper humidity level, thus wasting your money and causing you to be disappointed in the product.

Also, by getting your home to reach its proper humidity level, you may be able to lower your thermostat setting a couple of degrees without sacrificing comfort, and by doing that you could save money on your utility bills.
