Our two-story home faces the south but the west side is fully exposed to the sun. During the summer months and only the summer months, once it heats up outside, the upstairs rooms that have sun exposure will smell like something sort of electrical. Whether I am running the ceiling fans or not, the smell is there. It does smell in the winter when the sun is also heating the rooms, but more in the summer months. What could this be?
Unfortunately, sense of smell is so subjective. What you are describing could be caused by some type of growth on the evaporative coil that smells worse in the summer when it’s wet while the air conditioning is in use. I would suggest having a routine maintenance visit and start there. The solution could be as simple as having the system cleaned. Regular system maintenance, inspections and tuneups will keep your air conditioning system running right. ARS/Rescue Rooter also can help you ensure your system stays in shape all year long with our Home Service Plan.
