• Fan not turning outside

    Jul.13.2010

My air conditioning is not cooling very well in the house. There is air blowing out of inside vents but the air conditioning unit is not working (the fan is not turning) on the outside unit. Is this a serious and costly problem?

The outdoor unit is not functioning properly if at all. If it is cooling somewhat, then the fan motor outside is failing to come on. When this happens, the compressor overheats and it turns off and stops producing cool air. The problem could be that a motor is needed for a few hundred dollars. Or perhaps a capacitor may be the fault and that will be less expensive. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Durham, NC at (919) 493-1407, for a complete system check up.
