The fan on the AC unit runs constantly. What is causing this?

In order to answer the question as to why your fan on your air conditioner keeps running, I would need to know what type of HVAC system you have. There are a couple of things you do know about the system at this point. One is that there is power to the outside unit since the outdoor fan is working. You also know that the thermostat is working to turn it on, since it starts the fan.  A relay contact that is stuck together or a limit switch open/closed in the system could be the answer. However, those are both safety related items. If your system is not repaired properly, you could have a hazardous situation. It is best that homeowners not attempt these types of repairs. My recommendation is that you have a trained professional HVAC contractor, like the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in St. Petersburg, FL at (727) 588-4200 or (813) 282-3737, schedule a service call for an accurate diagnosis of your problem. The technician will open the outside unit and determine why the compressor is failing to start.
