• Foul smell

    Jul.6.2010

There has been a foul smell from the outside vents of my house and in the laundrey room and bathroom. THe last couple of weeks the smell has been even stronger. I don't know if it is a piple line issue or a sewer issue. Can you help?

Smell issues in a plumbing system are usually the toughest problems to diagnosis. There are a number of possible reasons that your plumbing system has a foul odor. Some of the most common problems are broken pipes in the wall, broken p-traps (on sink, bathtub and washing machine drains), broken seals on the toilet flange, and stoppages in the vent system. In most cases it is best to get a professional plumber to inspect the waste and vent system. Before you spend a lot of money inspecting pipes behind walls or underground, you should ask your plumber to conduct a “Smoke Test.” He will insert a small smoke tablet into the pipes and seal off all openings. Where he sees smoke is where he will check for leaks. This process can save you a lot of money. I suggest you contact a professional plumbing contractor, such as Rescue Rooter Bay Area East in San Leandro, CA at (800) 869-6915, to assist you in identifying and correcting your plumbing problem.
