We have an electric furnace and heat pump. The whole system was shut off at the breaker for the summer. We just turned it on this week. Temperature was set for 70. The thermostat showed that the temperature was rising very quickly. Then it claimed the temperature stayed at that setting. The furnace and heat pump ran constantly all evening. When the thermostat was turned down, the heat pump shut off but the furnace continued to run. Any ideas? Thanks.
When your furnace and heat pump have these kinds of problems, there are a number of possible reasons, including a shorted heating element or stuck blower relay. There is also a slight chance that the issues could be caused by a thermostat. I would contact a HVAC service company, like ARS/Rescue Rooter, at your earliest convenience. You could run up quite an electric bill very quickly.
