The gas turns on, it ignites, lasts 1-2 sec then gas stops. Repeats.
Answer: It sounds like something is telling the gas valve to turn off. This could be a safety device or a defective gas valve. The flame sensor may be dirty which would keep it from sensing the burners. Flame sensors indicate that a flame is present and are part of the furnace’s safety circuit design. The flame sensor should be cleaned once a year and, at the same time, you should have a complete safety check. You should contact a professional HVAC contractor for help resolving this problem.
