• Heater smells of gas

    Feb.22.2010

Have a Coleman Evcon heater at my mom's that is working but blows out cold to warm heat from the vents. It also smells of gas. My sister and I are only trying to get the place ready to sell and need to know if this is something we can fix ourselves or do we need to call an expert? We don't have a lot of funds.

If you smell gas, shut off the unit as soon as possible and contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as ARS San Diego at (858) 805-0613. This may be a hazardous situation. ARS will check the heat exchanger for any holes or cracks. This is not a job for a homeowner. One of our qualified technicians will know how to remove the burner and do a visual inspection with a light and a mirror. A bad heat exchanger is one of the main causes of carbon monoxide in the home.
