• Hot water radiator heating troubles

    Nov.9.2009

We have an oil fired burner with hot water radiator heating. We keep the thermostat at 62. However, even when the thermostat says the inside temperature is 62 or even 70, the furnace does not shut off unless we flip the switch to the burner. Is there anything we can do? We have even turned the thermostat to 50 and it still comes on.

It sounds like either the thermostat is defective or the thermostat wires are touching each other. Try disconnecting the thermostat wire at the unit to see if the boiler shuts off. If it shuts off, the problem is in the wire or the thermostat. If the boiler still runs, the problem is in the boiler. You will need to contact a professional HVAC contractor, like ARS/Rescue Rooter of West Bridgewater, MA.
