• House not cool enough

    Jul.12.2010

We had an Energywise device installed by Progress-Energy last October. We've lived here since July of 2006 and had a Preventive Maintenance Inspection from you on 2/23/09. The heating and cooling units were inspected on 3/16/09 and 9/4/09 respectively. We have the thermostat set for cooling at 68 degrees. The unit runs, but the temperature in the house gets to 78 during the day. It never gets down to 68 degrees until the evening. What can be the problem?

A technician should evaluate the system to determine why there is such a shortfall in reaching the desired temperature. Cooling to 68 degrees is probably too much of an expectation for very hot days, but it should do much better than 78 degrees on most days. I would try to find out how much of the time the Energywise device is interrupting operation, but that may only be a part of the issue. It has been almost of a year since your air conditioning system was checked, so scheduling maintenance and evaluation would be a good idea.
