• House warmer than thermostat setting

    Aug.17.2011

We recently had a system installed. The thermostat was set at 73 degrees but the temperature on the thermostat in the afternoon rose to 76 degrees and stayed there for a long time. What is the problem?

Upon the actual install of a new system, when the house has had a chance to climb in temperature and humidity, the new system starts up and it has to try and bring down the WHOLE house to the desired thermostat setting. What that also means is that the new air conditioning system has to remove the heat and humidity from the walls, flooring, furniture, drapes and anything else that is in the home that was picked up either prior to the system being replaced and/or during the replacement of the system. During this period, if the outdoor load increases it can take longer to accomplish this task of trying to bring this all back down to a desired temperature. If the system is designed properly for your home, it should maintain 75 degrees in your home on a 95 degree day. As the temperature increases above that and the added heat index, the temperature in the home may continue to rise in temperature but still feel comfortable. During these hot summer days and high heat index days any AC system might run all day long for the most part. I would worry if my system ran for a bit and shut off mid day when we are looking at 98 degree days with heat indexes between 105 and 115. When the above average summer heat passes, if your system does not keep your home at the desired temperature, I suggest you contact your local ARS/Rescue Rooter in Raleigh, NC at (919) 865-7777 or in Durham, NC at (919) 493-1407.
