I have 4 central a/c units with built in filters in the units, I replace these once a year, should I do it more often? Also, I replace the filters in the intake vents quarterly, is this overkill? Your thoughts?
Most units only have one filter per system. A lot of times, when you start adding more than one air filter it will reduce the air flow that comes out of the registers. I would recommend you buy a high quality pleated air filter — not the blue fiberglass ones — and try using only one in the unit. A higher quality a/c filter will keep both the air inside your home and your duct work cleaner. It will also help your air conditioning unit run more efficiently, thus saving money in the long run.I would also recommend that you check the unit and intake air filters at least once a month and replace as needed. Dirty filters are our number one service call.
