• How often should I clean my coil?

How often should I clean my coil in my attic? Should I use a chemical or water? Someone told me every 6 months is the best.

A periodic cleaning of the indoor coil varies by location and environment. Generally a cleaning of the indoor coil is only needed every couple of years, provided air filters are changed regularly. An enhanced air filtration system which will trap particulates before they reach the coil can be installed on most systems. Enhanced filtration in conjunction with a UV light that prevents any biological growth on the coil can reduce the need to clean the coil beyond five years even in the most humid climates. For drier climates and northern climates the coil may not need cleaning more frequently than every couple of years with a self-rinsing coil cleaner. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor to assist you with putting in place your maintenance schedule for your coil.
