I have a hydromatic sewage grinder pump. The last few days the high water alarm will go off. I guess the circuit breaker trips. If I wait a minute or so and turn the breaker on and off the pump will start and the light will go off. I have had 2 plumbers come out. One says that I need to change the breaker; the other said it could be the float switch. The previous owner had problems according to a neighbor lady, but this past week it has become a major ordeal. I am at my wit's end; afraid to wash clothes, shower, run dishwasher, etc. Any thoughts?
A hydromatic sewage grinder pump is a low-cost way to transport sewage and wastewater. The pump is designed to come on when a float gets raised to a pre set level. When the pump is working properly, the high level alarm should never come on. When the pump fails to work, the alarm is activated by a high level float. I suggest you have the float switches tested to see if that is the problem first. At the same time you will be able to see if the breaker kicks off. If the circuit breaker kicks off, you will know that there is an electrical issue with the breaker. However, my best guess is that the failed low level float switch is causing the breaker to kick off because the float switch needs to be replaced. Bottom line, fix the float switch and your breaker problem should go away. I suggest you contact a professional plumbing contractor, such as ARS/Rescue Rooter in Nashville at (615) 255-2111.
