• In one room the vent blows hot air

    Sep.21.2011

The air conditioner in my home is an older one (not sure how old) but we have been here for 15 years. It is a two story home (separate units for up and down). The upstairs seems to work fine but downstairs in one room (small bedroom) and only this room, the vent blows hot air. I have looked in the attic for problems, but don't really know what I'm looking for. Any thoughts? (Thank you in advance!!)

If one vent is blowing hot while the others are cold then it may indicate that the ducting has come loose from this vent, and it is forcing hot outside air into the vent due to pressures created in the house by the air conditioner. You should locate the vent that feeds this room and ensure that all of the ductwork is connected properly. On a first floor vent this can be quite difficult since it goes between the floor and ceiling or down a wall. A service call diagnostic by a professional HVAC technician, like the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Dallas, TX at (214/972) 503-8000, can be performed to find the cause of this issue. They will assist you with determining if your ductwork needs cleaning, maintenance and/or repair.
