• Inside fan on, outside unit is not

    Jan.13.2010

We have the TRANE TCONT800 AC unit which works well for AC. I have switched to heat and the inside fan is in the “ON” position and is warming up to the set temperature. However, the outside unit is not coming on. Is this OK?

This TCONT800 number is a thermostat model number and can be used for a heat pump or gas. If you have a gas furnace and the outside unit is an air conditioning unit the outdoor unit will only run when you are using the AC in the summer months. The outdoor unit should not operate in the heating mode if you have an air conditioner. If the outdoor unit is a heat pump then it should operate in the heating mode. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Fort Myers, FL at (800) 940-7440. They will be happy to help you with all your heating and cooling issues.
