• Is my unit too old to repair?

    Jun.6.2011

I have a house that is less than 10 years old. The HVAC unit has quit working. I had one company come out and tell me that the unit is too old and you can't get parts for it anymore. The only option they are giving me at this time is that the unit needs to be replaced by the new high efficiency unit that will be $4000+. That isn't an option at this time so I'm wondering if you can let me know if this is the true or if the unit be fixed.

Usually there comes a time when a homeowner must make a decision: Do I repair the 10 year old unit or do I replace it? This decision is usually based on how much the repair cost is, how long the homeowner plans to stay in the home, and the homeowner’s confidence in the 10 year old unit. New units are more efficient, even when compared to a 10 year old. You would probably be surprise to see how much you have been overpaying your utility company and how much a new unit would save you in the long run. As far as the parts not being available, I find that hard to believe, but it’s possible. Parts are usually available for units for quite some time, unless the unit was manufactured by a company that has gone out of business. I would recommend you call another reputable company, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Indianapolis, IN at (317) 390-5555, for a second opinion.
