• My faucet makes a screaming noise. What is the problem and how can I fix it?

I have a Moen single handle shower faucet that screams apparently when the pressure is lower (another faucet is turned on elsewhere in the house). If I turn it all the way on, it does not scream, but as I turn it back (less hot, more cold) it starts to scream. As near as I can tell, the screaming is intermittent. What is the problem and how can I fix it? Thanks.

Faucets can scream, whistle, or chatter when you turn them on or off. There are several possible causes for these faucet noises. If your house is newly built, you may have pipes that are too small to allow the water to pass through them properly. Similarly, pipes in older homes can become restricted by the formation of scale, indicated by a noisy faucet. In either case, you must replace the pipes to get rid of the noise, which is not really a quick fix. Most likely, however, your noisy faucet is caused by a bad or defective Moen cartridge. I would recommend calling 1-8oo-buy-moen and they will send you a new one at no charge usually.
