• My gas boiler will not shut off.

My heat will NOT shut off! I have a gas boiler, and also a hot water heater. The hot water heater is new, only 3 years old. We have a HoneyWell thermostat that is only 2 years old. I don't put our heat on much, only once in the morning to get the chill out. Our home stays pretty warm so we don't need it. Anyway, the other morning I woke up and it was hot as anything in here. It's been two days now and the heat won't shut off even though I put the thermostat switch on the "off" position. I generally keep my themostat at 68 degrees. The vents are constantly hot and we can't figure out what is going on here. Why would the heat keep coming on and the vents stay out even though the thermostat is OFF?? Please help! Thank you.

If the burner is cycling but continues to heat over and above the thermostat setting there is a major concern and it is most likely cycling on a limit switch. If this is the case then if the limit was to fail and not turn the burners off it could cause the boiler to build extreme pressure causing a very dangerous condition. If the burner never shuts off and continues to heat regardless of the thermostat setting this is considered “running wild” and is a VERY dangerous situation and needs to be shut down immediately. I would suggest that you first turn off the gas supply to the boiler then turn off power to it. You need to have a qualified technician to service and diagnose this for you. We have a service center located in Mt Kisco, NY that would be close to you and that number is (914) 241-1422. But I definitely suggest that you contact a reputable company that can service your boiler as soon as possible.
