• My heating unit is blowing out cold air.

My heating unit is blowing out cool air even when I put the thermostat on 80 degrees. What could be the problem?

Sometimes these problems can be as simple as the thermostat itself. Make sure that it is fully in the HEAT position. If it is a digital thermostat, it might have a delay in place that will not allow the system to start right away when switching from one mode to another. If the thermostat has been in the heat mode and you have run it to 80 and only the blower is starting then you may have a problem.

If you have a gas heating system, some models have a LOCK-OUT safety feature on it that will “lock out” the gas if it tries to light 3-5 times without actually igniting. The only way to reset this usually is to disconnect power to the furnace and then turn it back on. You might try this and see if it works. I would suggest having a qualified HVAC technician check out the furnace either way (especially if it is a gas system). We do have an ARS/Rescue Rooter location in your area if you would like to give them a try. Their phone number is (803) 754-0600.
