• New AC system is making loud, constant squealing sound

    Sep.6.2011

I had a new system put in a few weeks ago, and it recently starting making a loud constant squealing noise. Do you know what could be causing this? Also, the system was taking 8 to 12 hours to go to 3 degrees. The HVAC company came out and said that the system was overcharged and that now it should start cooling down again...but the noise is still here (you can hear it from my street). Unfortunately, I deal with a warranty company, and the air conditioning contractors cannot fix anything unless it is not functioning!

Although it is challenging to determine what is producing a noise without hearing it and examining the system in person, I do know that a squealing noise is often caused by a fan motor or a compressor. Both of these parts should be checked to determine the cause of the sound. There is something that is not working properly if the air conditioner is making a sound that can be heard from the street. I suggest you ask for a second opinion from a professional HVAC contractor, like the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Houston, TX at (713/281/832) 777-7777.
