My heater is not blowing hot air and it continues to run for hours.
If the fan is running and the thermostat is off while the fan position is in the “Auto” mode, the furnace (if it is gas and not a heat pump) is most likely off because of a high limit control. I’m not sure exactly what is causing this heating system problem, given the available information, but something is telling the furnace to continue running. This could be a safety concern. I suggest calling a professional HVAC contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Houston, TX at (281/713) 777-7777, to get a complete heating system tune up.
