There is no power to the thermostat. What should I check and where is it located?
The thermostat is usually powered by the furnace or sometimes by batteries within the thermostat. There are many makes and models of thermostats and some require batteries. Sometimes the thermostat has to be pulled away from a mounting base to expose batteries on the back of the thermostat, while others have a holder that will slide out without removing the thermostat. Usually you would have a low battery indicator on the screen of the thermostat before it goes blank if there is a battery problem. Check to be sure that a power switch which is often located on the side of the furnace did not get switched off. Also check the front panel on the furnace to be sure it is not loose since there is usually a safety switch ensuring the front panel is on correctly and securely. If checking these items does not help, you should enlist the assistance of a professional HVAC technician, like the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Raleigh, NC at (919) 865-7777.
