• Old furnace, no ductwork

We have an old oil furnace. What would be the best heating system to change it to? We do not have a duct system and do not want one if we don't have to have one.

If you live in Baltimore, you probably have one of two types of heat. You may have an oil-fired boiler with radiators. This works okay, but I would look into the energy efficiency rating. Check to see if gas is available in your area. Or, you may have a furnace in the first floor that is gravity fed, something you don’t see too often these days. With that heating system, you can also choose oil or gas. If you have radiators and like them (they are a good source of heat), and you want A/C, there are manufacturers that offer ductwork that is very small and flexible that can be very easily installed in many situations. Also, there are manufacturers who do make a ductless system but you would need a unit for each room. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Laurel, MD at (888) 212-4ARS, for an on site assessment of your heating and cooling needs.
