We just bought a house that was built in 1978. The air conditioning was serviced (whatever that means) before we moved in. The two back bedrooms are hot when the rest of the house is comfortable. Cold air is coming from the vents but the hallway and bedrooms are hot. When you walk into the hallway it is like you hit a wall of heat. There is also an old attic fan in the hallway, and I didn’t know if that could be a problem as well.
It’s possible that there may be leakage from the attic fan causing this area of your home to be hotter. The attic fan should not be visible at all. It should be completely shielded by louvers that close down and prevent any hot air from coming into the home. Sometimes there is a broken joint or other leak in the ductwork between areas of a home. You should regularly check all the connections and seal them with brush-on mastic. You can bet that if there is one loose connection, there will probably be more leaky ducts. If I were you, I wouldn’t bother with tape unless it is a good quality mastic tape. Certainly, stay away from the regular foil type tape. Also, sometimes areas that branch off the main ductwork may have reduced airflow. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor, like ARS/Rescue Rooter, to assist you with this problem.
