Our main bathroom toilet makes a really loud noise when flushed and vibrates in the floor at times. It does not make the loud noise every time but does at some point during the day. What could be the cause of this? The other bathroom toilet has no problems.
This sounds very similar to a question we received last week. For reference you may find the previous post “Is there a cure for humming plumbing” helpful. In your case however we have one extra clue: this only happens with one toilet. Since the noise and vibration is limited to only one fixture, we can rule out there being a water pressure problem throughout the home. Most likely the fill valve, sometimes also referred to as the ballcock, needs to be replaced in your toilet. The vibrating you hear is caused by the valve not shutting off properly. The fill valve is a fairly easy part to replace, however if you are not comfortable or familiar with replacing it on your own, I suggest you call a plumber to take a look and replace it for you.
