What are the typical causes of no home cooling when the fan is blowing, the thermostat is "asking" for cooling but the outside unit does not run? Could this be a capacitor issue preventing the compressor from engaging, or a thermostat issue?
There are a number of causes for this circumstance where the outside unit doesn’t run. It could be caused by a capacitor. If the capacitor is not feeding the correct power to the outdoor fan and compressor, neither will run. It also could be a thermostat issue, but not as commonly. Often the low voltage wiring feeding the outdoor unit has been damaged, or sometimes the outdoor unit isn’t receiving the line voltage necessary to run the unit. There are numerous causes besides this, so a diagnosis by a professional technician is necessary. I suggest you contact a HVAC contractor in your area, like the ARS/Rescue Rooter Dallas branch in Dallas, TX at (214/972) 503-8000.
