• Outside unit freezing

    Dec.24.2009

My outside unit is freezing up. The line that goes from the house to the unit is covered in ice. When I look inside the unit, where the fan is, you can see that the inside also has ice. The house is set at 68 degrees, and it is holding the temperature but the fan never seems to be going off.

I suggest you turn off your heating system and switch to emergency heat. The outside unit will have some ice but the lines and indoor section should not. If you continue to operate in the normal heat mode, you may damage the outdoor unit. Contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter location in Nashville at (615) 255-2111, for a complete system check up. If they have to add refrigerant, make sure they perform a leak search.
