I changed my filter and the paper wrapping from the filter blew down into the vent opening? Is that a problem or will it deteriorate over time? It was a colored piece of paper 14 by 20 by 1 inch in size.
All ductwork should be free of debris. Foreign items in the return air can become lodged in the blower assembly, which will cause a premature motor failure. Depending on your system, paper or cellophane can get stuck to the evaporator coil, which may cause problems with operation. Many times foreign objects harmlessly lie on the bottom of the return duct or plenum, but there is a chance that they will cause problems, particularly in the case of paper or cellophane, which can be easily moved by the air and become lodged in blowers or coils. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Durham, NC at (919) 493-1407, to make sure the paper does not create problems.
