• Pilot light goes out

    Nov.4.2010

My pilot light continues to go out after I have lit it. What could be the problem?

    Brittney, Indianapolis, IN

Most likely this is a case of a thermocouple or flame sensor not sensing the flame of the pilot light. This is a safety feature designed to shut off the gas valve on your furnace so that it isn’t filling your home with gas. This problem could be caused by several things and could be a simple repair, but I would recommend having it checked by a professional HVAC contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Indianapolis, IN at (317) 390-5555, to be safe. As you are probably aware, better safe than sorry when it comes to gas appliances!
