• Pilot off, blower won't shut off

    Jan.6.2010

I turned my heater on, the pilot shut off, and the blower is blowing cold air and will not shut off.

Check the thermostat and make sure the “fan” is in the “auto” mode. Did the system satisfy (or reach) the thermostat demand (or set temperature)? The pilot should stay burning when the system cycles off. If the pilot goes off, there is definitely a problem. There are a number of possible reasons for a heating system problem of this nature, including safety switch, gas valve, igniter, and thermostat issues. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Orange, CA at (800) 869-6956. They can safely identify the source of the trouble while performing a complete heating system check.
