• Pinhole leak in water supply line

    Dec.28.2010

I have a pinhole leak in the water supply flex line to the toilet tank. The valve is the older type of one piece valve with a welded flex line. I removed the flex line. However, the valve just spins in place as if the threads are stripped. As it spins it gets tighter and then spins easily again. I cannot remove the water shutoff valve. Do I need to cut the nipple?

A pinhole leak can result in a lot of water damage very quickly. Because pinhole leaks are so tiny, they can exist for quite some time before they are detected. Replacing the whole line and pipe fitting to the toilet tank is probably the best option to solve this problem. It does sound like you need to change out the nipple if it is stripped.
