After a power surge, my air compressor seems to have malfunctioned. The fan is blowing outside but the air is regular outside temperature. Not hot air. I’ve checked the circuit breaker but it was fine. I also cut the power for 30 minutes hoping it would return to normal after the power was restored. So far nothing has worked.
If your air conditioning unit was running during the power surge, the air compressor most likely short cycled, which is caused by trying to restart the compressor before the refrigerant pressure has a chance to equalize, and then it shut down on overload. Sometimes the compressor will restart after it cools down, but sometimes the compressor will fail internally. You will need to contact a professional HVAC contractor like ARS/Rescue Rooter to check the windings of the compressor and the wire harness. Also, make sure you ask the tech about adding a surge protector in order to protect your air conditioning unit in the future. To reach our Miami ARS/Rescue Rooter location, just call (305)235-7213.
