• Replace the breaker

    Jul.24.2010

Two days ago my air conditioner quit blowing out cool air and the fan did not spin. If I go back and flip the circuit breaker it will come back on, but only for about 30 minutes, then you hear it pop. (The breaker never actually flips over.) I turn off the breaker and then I wait 2 to 3 minutes, flip it and it comes back on. Then I start all over again. Will replacing the breaker fix it? (I put in new fuses.)

The breaker may be the problem or there could be an underlying issue that is causing the breaker to trip. A technician would need to check the amp draw of the unit to determine if it is drawing too much power and rightfully tripping the breaker or if the breaker is tripping for no good reason. Additionally, when you have tripped a breaker multiple times, you often weaken it and cause it to trip prematurely. Even if a problem is found to be causing high current draw and the breaker is tripping for good cause, you may still need a new breaker. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor to troubleshoot your air conditioning system and also to provide an air conditioner tune-up and inspection.
