• Replacing old HVAC system

My son is considering purchasing a 46-yr.-old home in Irving, TX. The home has the original HVAC system. What is the approximate cost of replacing the old system? The home is approximately 1900 square feet.

    Virginia, Plano, TX

Cost of the equipment will vary based on the SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) and the BTU’s you need to heat and cool the home. The SEER measures the energy efficiency of your system over a whole season. The lower the SEER, the more energy is required to heat/cool your home. BTU stands for British Thermal Unit and measures the heating or cooling output of a system. You may want to have a HVAC load calculation done on the home to see what the R value is. The load calculation will determine how much heating and cooling the house requires, while the R value will tell you whether or not the home has good insulation. A well insulated home will naturally use less energy than a poorly insulated one. Replacement cost will also depend on whether you have gas or electric. If you do purchase the home and decide to replace the equipment, make sure you ask about the energy tax credits and rebates available to homeowners. You will need to call a professional HVAC contractor, like ARS/Rescue Rooter of Dallas at (214/972)503-8000.
