Is there a code requirement in Texas concerning the disposal of my coil or compressor once the refrigeration is removed? If so, what code applies? Are there associated disposal fees
There are no local codes regarding disposal of residential appliances or HVAC equipment. There is however the Clean Air Act section 608 that requires persons servicing or disposing of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment to certify to the EPA that they have acquired recycling or recovery equipment and are complying with requirements of the rule. The legal disposal of this type of equipment typically has a fee associated with it due to the time consuming nature of the recovery and disposal process. Please contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Houston, TX at (713/281/832) 777-7777, for more information and assistance with all your heating and cooling repair and installation needs.
