There is rust residue found at the primary condensation line discharge, and the unit is only 3 yrs old (2006). What was the most likely cause of this rust? What needs to be done to correct it? Will cleaning/maintenance alone address this issue?
Most primary drain pans or condensate drains are made of plastic (PVC pipe) and do not rust. On the other hand, the coil does have some metal in the framing that will rust while the evaporative coil condensates. This rusting is unavoidable, but it normally does not show up in the drain line. If you are looking at the emergency drain line, most pans for that line are made of metal. I would have the primary drain line checked for a blockage that could be causing the overflow in the emergency drain pan. Check the manufacturer’s warranty. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as the Goettl Air Conditioning in Temple, AZ at (602) 275-1515.
