• Snow plugging up intake

    Jan.13.2010

I have a high efficiency furnace. The intake pipe on the side of the house has been continuously plugging up with snow causing the furnace to shut down. Can I do anything to prevent this?

Your best option is to have the intake extended above the snow line. You will need to refer to the manufacturer’s instructions and count the 90’s elbows you have in the intake run. If you are within the limit, you can extend the intake. Just make sure doing this does not affect the exhaust pipe. You may have to raise this vent also because it has to be above the intake. For more assistance with this problem and all your heating needs, I suggest you contact professional HVAC contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Chicago at (800) 721-3747.
