My daughter is trying to sell a house built in 1906 – the inspector said the sewer is broken under garage and alley. Is she responsible for the damage in the alley or is the city? The house is in Denver.
This is not an issue I would try to tackle without contacting the appropriate legislative parties. I recommend that you contact the city manager to discuss where your liability ends. Alleys can be very tricky, and I would not proceed with anything until you get full details from the city. If you find this is something you are responsible for, your next step would be to contact a qualified plumbing company, like ARS/Rescue Rooter. If you need our assistance, the phone number in the Denver area is (303) 418-6000.
