• Thermostat is blank

    Oct.5.2011

I came home the other day and the outdoor unit's fan was not blowing. I changed the capacitor and it was working the rest of the night. The next day the thermostat was blank. I replaced the thermostat and the unit started to cool the house. The thermostat kept turning on and off throughout the night (blank screen). I have also been hearing a clicking noise that started a few months before things started not working.

When you have a blank thermostat it can mean that you have a problem with power to the thermostat, like perhaps a loose connection or a short in the low voltage system. Possibly there was a problem with the thermostat itself. It could be something as simple as the thermostat being set up wrong or wired incorrectly. By replacing the thermostat, you would have eliminated any problem with the thermostat, so it sounds as though the thermostat is losing power some of the time. You may have a bad wire connection or the failure of a component in the indoor unit. I suggest you contact a licensed professional HVAC contractor, like the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Austin, TX at (512) 777-7000, for assistance with this problem
