• Thermostat set on auto

    Dec.8.2011

My AC unit has been working fine up until the last few weeks where the weather has been colder than summer but then warmer than fall. So I set my thermostat on Auto so that if it did get below 68 in the house it would turn heat on and if it got about 80 then it would turn AC on. It seems like I hear the motor running where my air filter goes, and it feels like some air is coming from the vents but the unit itself isn't running. Even if I turn the whole unit off from the thermostat, the sound of the air filter vent is running but not the actual unit. I'm at a loss for what could be the problem all I know is that the house has been unusually hot in the evenings when outside is nice and cool.

It can be very challenging to keep your house at an even temperature when the weather is very changeable in the fall and the spring. The auto setting on your thermostat is a setting that can bring the unit on for many reasons (heat, cool, humidification, circulation, etc). It isn’t uncommon for the fan to run when the equipment is not on. Check to make sure your fan setting is on auto also. If you are experiencing unusually hot evenings, I suggest switching the thermostat from auto to off in the evenings. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor, like the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Myrtle Beach, SC at (843) 293-9999, if you continue to have challenges with maintaining a comfortable temperature in your home.
