In one of our bathrooms when the water is turned on at the toilet, it starts humming loudly. What could be causing this and does it sound expensive to fix?
Most likely the fill valve, sometimes also referred to as the ballcock, needs to be replaced in your toilet. This is not an expensive part and takes about 15 to 30 minutes to change out. The noise you’re hearing is caused by the valve not shutting off properly. The fill valve is a fairly easy part to replace. However, if you are not comfortable or familiar with replacing it on your own, I suggest you call a plumber to take a look and replace it for you.
